Brittney Mills is wonderful. She took time to not only listen to my concerns, but she also offered many different resources. As parents we all want our children to be confident in their reading abilities and day to day interactions at school. She gave me helpful tips and ways to encourage my child. She also took time to explain the multiple areas of dyslexia. I highly recommend Reading Services of Arkansas to any parent that may have any reading concerns for their child.

Our daughter had been struggling with reading for a long time. No matter how much we tried to help her at home, her fluency and ability to read words didn’t seem to improve much. Eventually, we made the difficult decision to have her repeat first grade because we felt she wasn’t ready for second grade. But even after repeating the year, her reading didn’t get much better.
During that time, we enrolled her in Kumon for about a year, thinking that maybe she had just lost confidence and that more practice would help. Unfortunately, it didn’t make the difference we hoped for. That’s when I started searching for another solution—and thankfully, I found the Arkansas Reading Services and Ms. Mills.
I am so grateful we found her. It was the first time someone mentioned that our daughter might have dyslexia. Before that, the only thing I knew about dyslexia was that kids sometimes mix up letters, like confusing b and d. But after talking with Ms. Mills, everything suddenly made sense—the struggles our daughter had been facing for three years now had a reason.
When I learned that she might have dyslexia, I actually felt relief. I realized I didn’t have to keep pushing her so hard or worry that something was wrong with her intelligence. My whole perspective changed, and I finally felt peace and understanding.
Ms. Mills has been an incredible support. She even attended our parent-teacher conference to explain our daughter’s situation and guide us on how to get additional support from the school. Later, she joined our IEP meeting as well. I had actually prepared a whole presentation to share our experiences—but I didn’t even need it. Ms. Mills explained everything so clearly and effectively that the meeting went perfectly.
With her help, the school agreed to give our daughter a comprehensive evaluation and provide the interventions she needs.
I am beyond thankful to Ms. Mills and the Arkansas Reading Services. If you have a child who struggles with reading, I highly recommend reaching out to them. It made all the difference for our family. - Fran Vaught·
